What Is Out Of Context?

When non-Muslims use verses from the Koran to criticize Islam they are often accused of taking verses out of context. In reply to that accusation it has been said that it is difficult to find context in the Koran anyway. Ironically Muslims love to use one verse from the Koran to defend their religion, namely verse 2:62, which itself is placed glaringly out of context in the Koran.

Those who believe (in the Qur-ān),
And those who follow the Jewish (scriptures),
And the Christians and the Sabians,—
Any who believe in God
And the Last Day,
And work righteousness,
Shall have their reward
With their Lord: on them
Shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve. (2:62, Yusuf Ali tr.)

No less than twenty verses before it and no less than twenty verses after it are dedicated exclusively to crimes against God, committed by the Jews. Then, out of nowhere, Christians and mysterious Sabians come into the picture and, oh by the way, all this ranting before and after is just God venting about some past unresolved issues, since everyone who is righteous and believes in the judgement day, they will be fine...
